American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship

The American Legion was founded by an Act of Congress after World War I. The American Legion fiercely advocates for the unique needs of every generation of veterans, service members, and their families who pledge to protect our nation.

This scholarship opportunity is offered by the Ellensburg American Legion Auxiliary in cooperation with the

Ellensburg American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and Legion Riders.​

Scholarship Award Amount: $3,000.00​

Completed Application and Supporting Documentation must be received by April 7th, 2025.

Eligibility 

1. Applicants must be graduating from Ellensburg High School or Ellensburg Christian School in 2025 and must have been accepted into a college, university, or trade school for the 2025-2026 calendar year.​

2. Applicants must have a family member* who is currently serving or has served in the U.S. Armed Forces**.  

 

     -*Family members includes Father, Mother, Grandfather, or Grandmother who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.

     -**U.S. Armed Forces includes the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, and Coast Guard or National Guard.​

​3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Additional Scholarship Information

  • Number of Scholarships: One scholarship is awarded each year.

  • Amount: $3,000.00

  • Disbursement: Scholarship funding will be sent directly to the awardee's educational institution.

               -Under no circumstances will the funding be sent or given directly to the awardee.

  • Selection: The awardee will be chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Committee.

  • Allowable uses: Funds my be used for tuition, books, academic fees, and board.

 

The awardee must provide the Scholarship Committee with the following information regarding their college, university, or trade school acceptance so funds can be released:

  • School name​
  • School Financial Aid Office address

  • Name and phone number of a contact in the School Financial Aid Office

All American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship awards will be held in trust by the American Legion Auxiliary until the recipient provides proof of enrollment in a qualified post-high-school education program. If the recipient chooses to postpone their education, they must contact the American Legion Auxiliary. If the Auxiliary is not contacted within one year of the award, the scholarship will be forfeited. â€‹

How to Apply

If you meet the requirements and would like to apply to be considered for this scholarship:

  1. Complete the application (available in Word or PDF).

  2. Submit a written essay (500-1,000 words) describing what the military means to you and your family and/or how the military impacted you and your family.

  3. Provide the following documentation:

             -Proof of military affiliation (e.g., service record, discharge papers, etc.)

             -Copy of student ID

             -Copy of government-issued ID

             -Copy of transcripts (including GPA)

             -Two letters of recommendation: one from a teacher and one personal reference
